The beginning of January 2026 marks the launch of an exciting new journey for our parish: “Living Simply on Our Earth.”
This initiative is broadly based on CAFOD’s LiveSimply movement, which encourages parishes to:
✦ Live Simply – valuing people and relationships over possessions.
✦ Live Sustainably with Creation – caring for our common home.
✦ Live in Solidarity with the Poor – standing with our sisters andbrothers in need.
Throughout the year, we’ll explore how these themes can be woven into how we live out our lives by way of a series of reflections, practical tips, and community challenges. Each month we will highlight small but meaningful steps we can take in our homes,parish, and neighbourhood: choosing sustainable transport, sourcing food locally, reducing energy use, re-using and repairing rather than replacing, and deepening our sense of community and neighbourliness.
Living Simply is not about giving things up, but about living with purpose and joy — recognising that everything we have is a gift from God. As Pope Francis reminds us in Laudato Si’, “Living our vocation to be protectors of God’s handiwork is essential to a life of virtue.”
Everyone is invited to take part: individuals, families, and parish groups and our first set of “Living Simply” are noted in a separate news item which will be added to as we journey through this year. Together, let’s seek Christ’s light in the way we live, love, and care for our beautiful common home and make a shared resolution to live simply, sustainably, and in solidarity during the year ahead
